In the wake of the recent brouhaha in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) which has been widely blamed on so called  ‘oppressive policies’ of the university’s administration, the conversion of the university’s single sex halls to mixed halls has been singled out by alumni and students alike as the major root cause.

If that policy holds, the University  Hall (all male), Unity Hall(all male) and Africa Hall (all female) of the KNUST will become the first of such single sex halls to be converted to mixed halls in Ghana in the 21st Century.

The hullabaloo and chaos that accompanied the conversion of these halls has caused concerned citizens to ask some very legitimate questions such as: are single sex halls still relevant in these modern times? Do they really present any special culture worth preserving? or in the wake of recent gender balance issues in Ghana’s universities, should a mixed hall policy be more favored? What is your opinion?

In a bid to understand the issues being raised, The Cocktail has decided to conduct a survey that requests both current and past tertiary students to spend a few minutes to answer a set of questions relating to the issue. We sincerely appreciate your participation in this survey and request you to kindly complete and submit the questionnaire by clicking on the link below:
