According to Wikipedia, Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill encompassing the ability of an individual or organization to “lead” or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations.

Others also perceive leadership as the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. This leadership definition captures the essentials of being able to inspire others and being prepared to do so. Effective leadership is based upon ideas (whether original or borrowed), but won’t happen unless those ideas can be communicated to others in a way that engages them enough to act as the leader wants them to act.

Put even more simply, the leader is the inspiration and director of the action. He or she is the person in the group that possesses the combination of personality and skills that makes others want to follow his or her direction.( www.thebalance.com)

Essentially therefore, from all the ideas above, we gather that for one to be able to call him or herself a leader, he or she must have some degree of “following”. In other worlds, he or she must be showing some people the way or taking some people some place.

But what remains quiet varied is how to get people to actually follow you in a particular direction. Some believe this can be achieved by being assertive in a group, others believe it can be done via domination of feeble minded people whiles others believe one can simply get people to follow him or her by developing enough charm to captivate the hearts of the people.

A lot has been written and said about leadership yet much remains to be done about raising the right kind of leaders for the future, who will either be greater than their forefathers or at least measure up to them.

Also the notion that some people just have it in them to lead and others have to learn how to lead, is one that must be seriously checked. This concept over the years has been used as an excuse by those who don’t want to take responsibility to avoid various roles, whiles others operating by this same principle have developed bloated egos which has shipwrecked many societies.

Our discussion on this platform will center around two main ideas:

  1. Discovering, nurturing and perpetuating the unique leadership values in every single person as determined by the creator of all humankind.
  2. Creating the right balance of the various types of leadership by right positioning and prioritization all the types.
