The event took place on Sunday the 15th July,2018 at the Bambu Center located at Adenta Barrier near KFC in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The platform was also used to discuss the opportunities, and challenges young writers face in Ghana. As part of the regular activities of its meeting, some members of the Groto Readers and Writers Club took turns to share new stories and poems they have developed over the past month. Guest speaker Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond shared her writing experiences with her audience, outlining the challenges she encountered in the search for a publisher for her works among other things, and how she overcame each challenge to eventually publish her first book. She also hinted of two books she is currently working on which will be published soon. Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond is the Author of Powder Necklace, a book which according to a review by the New York Times, is a captivating colourful description of Ghana via an emotionally honest style of the young writer. Also present at the meeting were the co-founders Elikem M. Aflakpui and Nana Awere Damoah, and others writers including Patrick Fynn, Akuvi Akuedze, Mawuko and Courage. The Writers and Readers’ Grotto is an organisation of young Ghanaian writers with great aspirations and a common goal of using the art of writing to make a difference in their generation. The Club was co-founded by Elikem M. Aflakpui, Nana Awere Damoah and Chief Moomen and meets every month on a platform where members share new written works of poetry and stories and also participate in workshops with seasoned resource persons.
