The StandPoint, a popular T.V production hosted by Oheneyere Dr. Gifty Anti, as part of its 10th anniversary celebration, catered for over 1000 ‘Kayayei’ and their children with food, drinks and free medical screening on Wednesday, 11th July, 2018.

“Kayayei”, which means ‘girl-carriers or female porters’ in the Ga language, represent a very prominent section of the underprivileged and vulnerable people found labouring daily in the various markets across the cities of Ghana.

The event, which was held concurrently at the Agbogbloshie Market and the Tema Station in Accra, was supported by several partner institutions which included Quik Medical Centre, Stand Out Care, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, University of Ghana School of Nursing, Ghana Police Service and Ghana Red Cross.

Around 10am the two venues were already teeming with hundreds of kayayei and their children who turned up in their numbers to patronise the free food, drinks and medical screening services. Several market women also turned up later in the day for the free medical screening services available.

The well organised event was brought to a successful close at 3:30pm and had about 25 volunteers in attendance that supported the activities of the event in various capacities which included registration, medical lab and consultation, props and protocol.
