Ghanaian born Joseph Awadjie was on Thursday, the 29th of March, selected to the role of Assisitant Director for External Relations and Compliance of the league office of the City University of New York (CUNY) Athletic Conference.

Awadjie, an alumnus of St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast, who has been with the conference since 2016, will be responsible for all aspects of athletic compliance for the University system, and serve as a liaison between the league office and the CUNY administration, as well as its corporate partners. On the official.

In a report on the official website of CUNY Athletics, Joseph Awadjie expressed his gratitude and indicated a commitment to helping the advancement of student athletes, whiles some members of the university’s leadership justified his selection with expressions of optimism in his abilities.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and fortunate to have received a great deal of experience from my multiple leadership roles within CUNY and I see this as a wonderful opportunity to lead CUNY Athletics going forward,” commented Awadjie. “My goal is to be the best possible resource to our campuses and to use my insight to enrich the student experience and to empower the student-athlete.”

“We are excited to welcome Joseph onto our exceptional team and hope to continue to enhance what we do for our students with him,” stated CUNYAC Executive Director Zak Ivkovic. “He has a strong track record of advocating for our students through his work with USS and the Board of Trustees, and we are thrilled to have that passion to serve continue with CUNY Athletics.”

“In a short time, Joseph has already had a big impact on the work of CUNYAC and the Central Office of Student Affairs,” said CUNY Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Christopher Rosa. “We are particularly proud of his leadership on athletics compliance and communication with CUNY students around technology. We are very fortunate to have him as a key member of our student affairs team.”

Additionally, Awadjie was recently chosen to attend the 2018 NCAA Division III Institute for Administrative Advancement from June 4-6 in Atlanta, Ga.

The conference focuses on engaging and empowering a current and/or aspiring administrator. It also assists in gaining professional development to advance a person’s career in collegiate athletics.

“I am humbled by the selection and looking forward to the opportunity to learn about the richness of Division III athletics,” Awadjie stated.

“His selection for the NCAA Institute for Administrative Advancement is yet another step in his growth and development as a rising leader in the CUNYAC family,” added Ivkovic.

Awadjie had his high school education in Ghana at the St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast and earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and master’s degree in Natural and Behavioral Sciences from Brooklyn College. He also served as a captain of the Bulldogs’ men’s soccer team in his undergraduate tenure at Brooklyn.
