CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY WINS BRITISH COUNCIL NATIONAL DUAPA CAMPUS CHALLENGE 2018

The Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) chapter of ENACTUS (Entrepreneurship Action in US),  has emerged the 2018 Champions of the British Council Duapa Campus Challenge. They defeated KNUST, Ashesi Univeristy, University of Ghana, Legon, U.C.C and others to capture the GH10,000 seed capital and business support prize from the British Council at a ceremony held at the hall of the Council in Accra.

The Duapa Challenge is a social innovation support competition providing seed capital and business support for early stage viable social enterprises.

In an interview with The Cocktail, the leader of the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) team, Agbesi Worlanyo explained that their victory was largely due to the internal mechanisms of the University which included extensive guidance and supervision by the lecturers that aided the fine tuning of their financials and presentation skills. According to him they held internal competitions to select the best team to represent the school. He indicated that this approach also resulted in the school’s emergence as the National Champions of the 2012 and 2013 editions of the ENACTUS National competitions which took them to Mexico and Washington D.C to represent Ghana.

Their “Prison Made” project which won them the top prize, has been a project piloted by the CUCG ENACTUS for over a year in the Sunyani Central Prison where they have been working closely with some inmates to help them develop economically viable skills that will help them reintegrate with society when they complete their prison terms.

The future goal according to him, is to extend the “Prison Made” concept to all 43 prisons in Ghana and help change the image of inmates and ex- convicts by equipping them with economically viable skills. He used the opportunity to urge students and youth everywhere to take their destinies into their hands by starting something positive in their communities which can end up providing jobs for them.

The Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) team which comprised of two gentlemen in the persons of Worlanyo Agbesi, David Marquis and a lady Miracle Efoema, competed against teams from Ashesi University, KNUST, Univesity of Ghana, Legon, University of Cape Coast (U.C.C), Lancaster University, Central University College (C.U.C), Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Knustford University and University of Professional Studies (UPSA).
